Kodak Black has been dropping standalone tracks fairly regularly on YouTube. The rapper’s latest is “Lil Shoota Love,” a Mr. Flipper collaboration with a throwback feel and back-and-forth dynamic.
Kodak recently appeared on the remix to Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow.” As Cardi has publicly expressed, the song was inspired by Kodak’s “No Flockin'” flow, and the title is a play on his stage name. The remix was released just as Cardi’s track prepares to battle for the top spot on the Hot 100 against Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do” and Post Malone’s “Rockstar.” Seeing that Kodak has also experienced some chart success (“Tunnel Vision” hit No. 6 on the Hot 100 in March), the remix could definitely help Cardi hit her goal. The same day, he released “No Flockin 2 (Bodak Orange),” where he riffed on lyrics from Cardi’s track: “money moves, these bloody shoes, I’m trippin, Christian Louboutin.”
In other Kodak news, a teacher in Georgia was recently suspended for using his lyrics in a class lesson. After parents complained when the teacher assigned homework that involved assessing the lyrics to Kodak’s verse on “Drowning,” the teacher was put on leave and the superintendent released a statement. “The assignment was inappropriate, unacceptable and contrary to our standards,” it read. “The employee responsible has been removed from the classroom and will be held accountable for such poor judgment. While we encourage teacher creativity, the expectation is that the instruction is always standards-based and age appropriate.”
